Overview: High-speed cameras are the ‘go-to’ analysis tool for those researching ballistics and range applications. This key tool provides the temporal resolution capable of seeing and slowing down the ultrafast events that are typical of ballistics research tests. Vision Research has designed the Phantom hardware and software to optimize the workflow and data quality for ballistics researchers. Recent hardware highlights to our flagship line of cameras include 38 ns exposure times, frames rates up to 1.7 million FPS, and clean and crisp images due to the sensors’ high dynamic range.
Vision Research engineers are constantly working on methods to continually extend the dynamic range of sensors to provide clear insights into explosives research. A few techniques include extreme dynamic range (EDR), hardware high-dynamic range (HDR), correlated double samples (CDS), pulse-laser + band pass filtering, and others.
